Woolfelt Armwarmer fashion

Alternate red and blue spirals!

Last fall we began making arm warmers from machine felted, upcycled wool. They have proven very durable, lovely accessories that keep you warm and fashionable. Frank wore his pair pretty much every day in the winter around the house (we tend to keep the house cool I guess:) and they are holding up wonderfully.

Busy spring market season

We had a successful first outing at Marcatus in April. Looking forward to growing with it.

Market days are awesome! We love getting out into the sun with our customers, and even our not-customers. The feedback we’ve been getting is amazing and really keeps us going. I don’t know if we could keep it up if we were to try to just sell over the faceless internet. Seeing people light up . . . → Read More: Busy spring market season

Cuddling with wool?

Seriously, it seems like a weird idea at the outset, but our wool felt is soft and cuddly in ways that mass manufactured products just can’t match. Hand made from upcycled wool felt they have a smooth “hand” and feel so natural to the touch. Our stuffed friends are perfect for kids and adults. They have . . . → Read More: Cuddling with wool?

Hip-slings for baby wearing

P1000779_1

Leah’s mother, Ginny, created the pattern for our hip-sling while foster parenting around 10 years ago. Hopping hopefully into the new year

Turning seasons

Hi friends and strangers and spambots. This new year finds us chafing at the bit to run hard and wild. We are excited to be fully engaged with this venture and beginning to see sprouts in the soil we’ve been working these past months. 2010 was a year of clearing the cobwebs from our . . . → Read More: Hopping hopefully into the new year

Hello world!

Poke around. We have a nice little thing starting up here and we’d love to share it all with you.

Snowday Design is a creative collaboration between husband and wife, Frank and Leah Kanach. We founded Snowday Design in DC by the warmth of our wood stove during the epic snow storms that brought in 2010. We share deeply ingrained beliefs in the importance of treating our planet kindly and minimizing our footprint on the earth during our time here. We believe strongly in the importance of doing what we can to care for our earth. Our business operates out of our home, which is partly powered with photo-voltaic solar panels and was built with passive solar heating and cooling elements designed to maximize the sun’s heat and light in the winter and to retain night-time coolness during hot summer days.

The vast majority of our product materials are re-purposed from used clothing, scraps/waste products redirected from land fills, fabrics and fillings from the stashes of sewers no longer in need of them, and sustainably produced organic new fabrics.

This blog will be a place where we share some of the things that are important and interesting to us and seek to learn even more from our visitor’s comments. We’ll also be sure to post about any new products going up at our little Etsy store
